Indications for use of Carsil (Silymarin) are:

Toxic liver damage (alcoholism, intoxication with halogenated hydrocarbons, heavy metal compounds, medicinal liver damage), chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis (as part of complex therapy), lipid metabolism disorders.

Pharmachologic effect:

Pharmacological action - hepatoprotective. It interacts with free radicals in the liver and converts them into less toxic compounds. By interrupting the process of lipid peroxidation, it prevents further destruction of cellular structures. In damaged hepatocytes, it stimulates the synthesis of structural and functional proteins, stabilizes cell membranes, prevents the loss of cell components (transaminases), and accelerates the regeneration of liver cells. It inhibits the penetration of some hepatotoxic substances into the cell. The absorption is low. Undergoes enterohepatic circulation. It is metabolized in the liver by conjugation. The half-life is 6 hours. Excretion is mainly with bile. Does not cumulate. After repeated oral administration of 140 mg 3 times a day, a stable level of excretion with bile is achieved. Improves the general condition of patients with liver diseases, reduces subjective complaints, normalizes laboratory parameters.
